UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESS AND GETTING THE JOB DONE

Tuesday, 3:00-4:30PM

This session will cover some of the issues involved in getting a brownfield development on track. Topics will include:

  • Breaking the barriers and working together with the federal government towards brownfield redevelopment.
  • Environmental risk management; how insurance helps facilitate a deal with Fortune 1000 companies and other sellers of plant closures and contaminated, decaying sites for future revitalization.
  • Environmental laws and regulations; how the legal structure and negotiation of a deal assist in the acquisition, corporate alliance structure, site preparation, redevelopment and disposition of a brownfield site.
  • SiteReuse Alliances: what opportunities are available for private and public stakeholders; and how we can work together to seize the same for the future.

Moderator: Susan Stann, J.D. - CEO, American Land Recycling, Exton, PA

Randall Airst, Esq., LLM - General Council, American Land Recycling, Exton, PA

ALR has used engineering, environmental and other experts to pursue zoning variance relief at a heavily contaminated former PECO power plant. Using the former PECO POWER PLANT project as a case study, we will discuss how previously insurmountable [environmental and structural] problems can be overcome through zoning relief. This exemplar represents a precedent setting case which is currently working its way through the courts. Lessons ALR learned, and which will be conveyed to attendees, can aid in the redevelopment of other brownfield properties.

But what about other large sites that are still waiting to be developed? And what about smaller sites that are tucked away in neighborhoods? This session will talk about the barriers and benefits of tackling these sites while providing insight on getting the ball rolling.
