The ESWP's "Business of Brownfields" Conference (BoB) was held over April 15-17, 2009 at Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLLCC). This was the 14th annual event conducted by ESWP on this still-emerging topic that is a very important topic in Western Pennsylvania. More than 200 registrants attended this year’s Conference.

This year's event began on Wednesday, April 15 with a river cruise aboard the Pittsburgh Explorer, the first environmentally "green" boat of its kind. The tour cruised along the Allegheny River to examine some of Pittsburgh's best and brightest example of brownfields development. For more info, Boat Tour Program. Following the boat tour, attendees participated in the Wednesday evening mixer featuring Allegheny County Director of Economic Development, Dennis Davin. Mr. Davin discussed many of the developments and opportunities in and around the region.

The BoB Technical Conference began on Thursday, April 16 at the DLLCC with an Opening Session featuring Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. Over the next day-and-a-half, attendees chose from 2 concurrent breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including:

• Sustainable Development
• Regulatory Perspectives
• Innovative Site Investigation
• Remediation Technologies
• Visions for Redevelopment

You can find more information about the full Technical Program here on the program link. Proceedings of the 2009 Business of Brownfields will be made available shortly, on-line.

In addition to the tour and technical program, the Business of Brownfields Conference features an Exhibit Hall with 24 Exhibitors who presented additional information of the technical, legal financial, governmental and social importance of brownfields development
